KNVTS Ship of the Year Award

Every year, the KNVTS presents the ‘Ship of the Year Award’ and associated challenge trophy. This prestigious award goes to a ship designed and (largely) completed in the Netherlands that is particularly innovative in technical terms. With this award, we promote technical progress and reward the courage to experiment with new developments.

Further details of the Award, including previous winners, are at https://www.knvts.nl/en/ship-of-the-year   Invitations to submit nominations for the 2026 Award will be published in due course.

Society of Naval Architects of Serbia (SNAS)

warmly invites you to the lectures titled

Symposium SORTA — From Historical Roots to Development and a Vision for the Future

(Prof. Dr. Joško Parunov)

• The lecture provides a concise overview of the history of the SORTA symposium, which will be hosted again in Belgrade after 42 years, with a focus on contemporary challenges and future development.

&

Sensitivity Analysis of Battery   Powered Electric Propulsion for a Generic Passenger Ship

(Prof. Dr. Vedran Slapničar)

• Electric propulsion uses battery-powered electric motors and is considered a promising solution for improving sustainability and energy efficiency. However, the low energy and power density of current batteries limit their application on large ships. The lecture examines how factors such as ship size, speed, battery capacity, charging infrastructure, and sailing distance influence the performance of electric vessels, illustrated through two case studies in which diesel-powered ships are replaced with electric ones.

From Dynamic Positioning to Autonomous Navigation: Challenges and Approaches

(Prof. Dr. Marko Valčić)

Every modern autonomous ship will need to implement at least some form of dynamic positioning. This opens up opportunities for the further evolution of dynamic positioning,  a technology proven for more than half a century, towards remotely operated and fully autonomous ship control systems. The lecture provides a brief comparison of these approaches, with particular emphasis on the key challenges in their development and implementation
